ABOUT TKM

Traditional Krav Maga (TKM) was established by Erez Sharabi and his senior students, in order to preserve the principles and spirit of Krav Maga training passed on the by the founder, Imi Lichtenfeld (Sde-Or) and his distinctive student Eli Avikzar. The founders of the organization are currently Krav Maga instructors and are experienced teaching both civilian and defense groups.  Within the organization there are dozens of black belt members certified with the Wingate Institute and the Israeli Defense Forces.

TRAINING METHODS

The training methodology of Traditional Krav Maga consists of two key elements: Self-Defense & Face To Face Combat.  Self-Defense focuses on defensive strategies and tactics for resisting and overcoming a violent aggressor.  Face To Face Combat focuses on striking combatives for surviving an attack with the use of countervailing force.
SELF DEFENSE
TACTICS
This part of the TKM training methods includes structured exercises to protect against threats, attacks, sharp objects attacks, live weapons, bear hugs, chokes, kicks and punches, etc. The exercises relate to a wide range of scenarios such as: standing, on the ground, sitting, while in a vehicle, hostages, and attacks on a third on a third party.  The self-defense exercises are based on simple, natural and basic movement which allows effective execution by anybody.
FACE To FACE
COMBAT
This part is made up of striking combatives and the use of countervailing force, such as, punches, kicks, elbows, knees and defending in motion. The goal of this section is to prepare the student for a conflict from both the physical and mental aspects. Face to face combat can be more complex and can last relatively longer than self-defense. Violent conflict usually starts when an effort to execute a self-defense exercise develops into a fight.

What is Krav Maga?

A Reality-Based Self Defense & Fighting System

Krav Maga is an effective, modern, and dynamic self-defense and fighting system. It is designed to be practical and intuitive for people of any age, shape, or size. The techniques expand on your natural instincts to develop skills quickly and effectively, while enabling you to address attacks under any scenario. You will learn how to defend yourself and your loved ones, while gaining increased awareness and instinctive reflexes.
Krav Maga is a pure self defense and striking system. There are no competitions or showcases for self defense scenarios. We train in Krav Maga to help us avoid and survive the worst case scenarios. If someone is threatening your life, we train on how to avoid that scenario to begin with, and if it is already beyond the point of no return, we are trained to use the most effective strikes and techniques to prevail, while under extreme stress.

There are no elaborate choreographies nor absolutes. There are no uniforms and no traditions. We do not train in Krav Maga to start fights or show off. We train to save our own lives and the lives of our loved ones. As quoted by the founder Imi Litchenfeld, we train in Krav Maga “so that one may walk in peace.”
Krav Maga is not a combat sport, rather it is a practical and efficient fighting system designed for self-protection and physical training. Krav Maga emphasizes simplicity, efficiency and realism. It is not a combat sport because it does not focus on the competition side of martial arts, instead focusing on reality based self-defense.
Krav Maga is an effective, modern and dynamic self-defense and fighting system originally developed for the Israeli Army after World War 2. Pronounced “krahv mah-GAH” (/krɑːv məˈɡɑː/), it literally means "Contact Combat" in Hebrew. Known for its focus on real-life situations, Krav Maga combines a wide variety of practical techniques sourced from various martial arts and combat sports, with reality-based scenario training. It is intended to be practical and intuitive regardless of age, gender or physical ability.
The Krav Maga method is made up of two main parts:

Self Defense - this part includes structured exercises to protect against threats, attacks, sharp objects attacks, live weapons, bear hugs, chokes, kicks and punches etc. The exercises relate to a wide range of scenarios such as: standing, on the ground, sitting, while in a vehicle, hostages, and attacks on a third party. Generally the exercise is over as soon as the threat no longer exists. This can happen by either counter attack, neutralizing controlling your opponent or by getting away from the scene. The self-defense exercises are based on simple, natural and basic movement which allows effective execution by anybody. Face to

Face Combat - this part is made up of punches, kicks, and defending in motion. The goal of this section is to prepare the student for a conflict from both the physical and mental aspects. Face to face combat is more complex and can last relatively longer than self-defense. Violent conflict usually starts when an effort to execute a self-defense exercise develops into a fight.

The Principles of Krav Maga: “Be modest” – Try to avoid conflict as much as you can. Control your mental state, so that it will not affect you during a threat or conflict. Be prepared to accept criticism and guidance. “Act to the best of your ability but act smartly”– Your physical and mental condition will determine your capability to confront your attacker. You need to maximize your ability and surroundings in order to fight your attacker in the best way possible. “The simple way is the shortest and fastest way” – Strive for simplicity and effectiveness. “Minimum movement against maximum force”- Use minimum movement and energy in order to protect yourself. At the same time you must strive to respond to multiple threats with minimum movement. “Don’t get hurt, but if you did continue fighting” – You need to reach a high self-defense level in order to avoid getting hurt. If you did get injured continue fighting even under the new circumstances. “Achieve proficiency to avoid harming the attacker beyond necessity” – Strive for self-control and be considerate to other people even during dangerous conflicts. Use your knowledge as needed with common sense.
Krav Maga (“contact combat” in Hebrew) was developed in the 1950s, combining the most effective techniques and philosophy from various martial arts and fight training. It was originally taught to the Israeli Army, and instruction for civilians began in the late 70s. Multiple forms of Krav Maga continue today: civilian (self-defense), law enforcement (arrest or detain), and military.

Training in Krav Maga is intended to help avoid and survive worst case scenarios. There are no uniforms, traditions or elaborate choreographies. According to Krav Maga Founder Imi Litchenfeld, we train in Krav Maga “so that one may walk in peace.”

Imi developed the Krav Maga method based upon the following principles: 1. Don’t get hit 2. Act to the best of your ability, but act correctly 3. Use your knowledge, but only as needed 4. The simplest way is the shortest and fastest way Based on this ideology Imi developed simple and effective techniques that any person at any age could perform.
